Employee Benefits

The State of Texas's mission and the PUCT's mission is to offer competitive benefits to our employees. To show our commitment to this mission, we provide an array of valuable benefits to our employees and their eligible dependents.

Health Benefits

New employees are eligible for health coverage through the Texas Employee Group Benefits Program (GBP).

Health coverage benefits include:

  • Health
  • Dental
  • Vision
  • Life Insurance

For more information, please visit ERS Benefits at a Glance

Wellness programs are also offered to improve the quality of life and longevity of its employees such as weight management, fitness programs, and tobacco cessation programs. For more information, please visit ERS Wellness Resources

Retirement

State of Texas employees become members of the ERS retirement plan as soon as they begin employment. The state retirement plan is a defined benefit plan, which means you choose to retire after reaching eligibility. When you reach retirement eligibility, you will get a monthly annuity payment for the rest of your life.

For more information, go to ERS State of Texas Retirement Info

Tuition Reimbursement

Upon approval, the PUCT may reimburse an employee for certain higher education costs that are job related and are taken at an accredited college or university as defined by Texas Education Code, Chapter 61.003 for the completion of a degree program.

Holidays

State agency employees are entitled to paid leave on a national, state, and skeleton crew holiday that is observed by the State as outlined in Texas Government Code, Chapter 662. If a holiday falls on the weekend, it is not observed.

The PUCT must have enough state employees on duty on a skeleton crew holiday to conduct the public business of the agency. An employee who works on an observed national or state holiday, will earn holiday compensatory time and will be allowed to use it within 12 months from the date earned.

For observed holidays, please review our holiday schedule.
