Texas Advanced Nuclear Reactor Working Group

The Texas Advanced Nuclear Reactor Working Group (Working Group) published its final report, Deploying a World-Renowned Advanced Nuclear Industry in Texas: Considerations and Recommendations for Action, on November 18, 2024. The report is a comprehensive analysis of how Texas can develop a world-leading advanced nuclear power industry.

The Working Group was established August 16, 2023, at the direction of Governor Greg Abbott and operates under the leadership of Public Utility Commission of Texas Commissioner Jimmy Glotfelty.

Report: Deploying a World-Renowned Advanced Nuclear Industry in Texas

The Texas Advanced Nuclear Reactor Working Group, comprised of over 100 experts and stakeholders, dedicated roughly 50,000 hours over the past year to shape Texas as a national and global leader in advanced nuclear technology. This report highlights key recommendations, opportunities, and strategies to position Texas as No. 1 in the advanced nuclear industry.

The Working Group evaluated how advanced nuclear reactors can provide safe, reliable, and affordable power for Texas and how to make the state a national leader in the deployment of nuclear power. Areas of study included financial incentives, state and federal regulatory impediments to growth, Texas electric market impacts, technical challenges, and additional factors necessary to foster growth of nuclear energy in Texas.

The Working Group submitted its findings and recommendations to Gov. Abbott ahead of the December 1, 2024 deadline.
